Guidelines for submissions

Appropriate subjects

  • reviews: book, exhibition, movie, play, concert, store, CD, etc.
  • exhibitions: personal, friend/s, students, group
  • interviews: author, artist, director, musician, community figure, politician,scholar, etc.
  • summaries: panel discussion, round table, conference panel, conference
  • creative work: poems, cook chapters, artwork, brief introduction of a creative project. (Please refrain from solicitation.)
  • brief Scholarly Articles pertaining to popular culture.

Requirements

Length: maximum 6,000 words (twelve pages). Shorter essays also are welcome.

Style: clear, accessible writing that avoids jargon.

For reviews: if possible, please include a book cover, playbill, CD cover, photograph or other image to accompany your essay. Please remember to ask the copyright holder for permission to publish the image and provide this information in your review. The image should be under 5 megabytes.

Exhibitions should have 20 or less entries, each 5 megabytes or less. Each entry must have the artist’s name, title, date, medium, dimensions, and permission to publish. If possible, include a brief artist’s statement. The exhibition must also be accompanied by an opening statement explaining its theme.

To introduce your own work, clearly describe the project, your intention and your accomplishment. View this opportunity as similar to giving a promotional lecture or tour. While the purpose is to create interest, please do not attempt to solicit sales via The Gazette.

Deadlines

  • 15 March for Spring publication
  • 15 June for Summer publication
  • 15 September for Fall publication
  • 15 December for Winter publication
