Raj Singh - 2022 Lorance Award Honoree

Dr. Raj Singh is a music researcher in the Don Wright Faculty of Music at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. Her interests include critical Indigenous theory, Indigenous methodologies, and Indigenous modernity. Her current work examines how Inuit musicians combine traditional and contemporary forms of music to include new realms of lived experiences. Moreover, her work with Inuit hip hoppers interrogates the intersections between gender, identity, and race as they relate to individual and communal notions of belonging. Raj’s service to MAPACA includes being the Graduate Student Representative (2015-2016), Area Chair for Natural and Built Environment (2015-2018), Co-Area Chair for Music (2015-present),and Vice-President Conference (2016-2019).
