Art and Business: Hollywood Lights versus Live Theatre

Presenter:
Emily Lazar
Presentation type:
Paper
Abstract:

As a way to continue the franchise, the film industry has developed their products into Broadway and live theater productions recently. The trend of vertical integration has lead to many plays and musicals being produced with movie, such as the Catch Me If You Can, Sister Act, and Bring It On. In a competition between original compositions and film-based scripts for the limited space on Broadway, predicting success and value is imperative to producers, creative teams and those financing the productions.

After establishing background information about the topic and researching other studies about determining success of a Broadway show, the paper will contain qualitative research focusing on the perceptions and ideologies of professionals in the theater industry. The theater professionals used in the study will include directors, stage managers, dancers, composers, playwrights, screenwriters and actors with at least five years of experience. In conclusion to all the interviews, the information will be analyzed for comments, ideas, predictions and trends.

Scheduled on:
Saturday, November 8, 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm
