Male nudity in advertisements: a case study of Gini

Abstract: 

Sex sales, there is no doubt about that ! Gini, a drinks only sold in Belgium and France has always used - since its creation in 1984 - very provocative ads showing male and female nudity. This presentation will examine how this company is able to show nudity on their advertisement in public places while not crossing the delicate line of being inappropriate. We will also examine how being nude is different of being naked in the Europea culture and how Gini has always been on the forefront of marketing technics including showing same sex couples in their ads.

The primary research is based on the visual semiotics applied to the various Gini ads from the mid 80’s to 2014, its evolution, what the public has said about it, its philosophy, and the product perception because of their marketing strategy.
