Sex Ed Doesn’t Have to be Scary: Reducing Anxiety Around Discussing Sexuality Topics

Presenters:
Cassandra Lange
Samantha Taylor
Presentation type:
Paper
Abstract:

Anxiety has a significant impact on both a presenter’s ability to teach material and a learner’s ability to retain that material. During this presentation, a connection is made between efficacy of sexuality teaching and anxiety. The audience will be encouraged to identify why they may feel anxious when communicating about sexuality and will be taught strategies to manage that anxiety in themselves and in their intended audience. While this workshop is especially relevant for professionals such as therapists and educators who are likely to provide sexuality education in a formalized setting, this information can be applied in a wide range of situations both formal and informal. A portion of the presentation will be dedicated to information on communicating with children and adolescents, and thus this presentation will also be geared towards caregivers who may struggle when talking to their children about sex.

Scheduled on:
Saturday, November 7, 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm
