Philly Food Tour

Friday, November 6, 11:30 am to 1:30 pm (Off-site)

Have you ever wondered about the origin of Philadelphia Cream Cheese or the Hershey Kiss? What was George Washington’s favorite Philadelphia food? Hint: It wasn’t cherries. And, yes, there is a proper way to order a Philadelphia Cheese Steak.

Join award winning author Carolyn Wyman, the author of The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book, Jell-O: A Biography, and Spam: A Biography, who will lead our group in a private tour of the historic Reading Terminal Market on Friday, November 6 at 11:30 AM.

After the tour, pick up lunch on your own at one of the Market’s 40 eateries. Then, join us at our reserved tables in the Rick Nichols Room (next to the demo kitchen) to hear Anne Mintz speak about the Market’s streetscaping project, funded through ArtPlace America.

MAPACA is paying for the tour, but sign up is imperative so we know how many tables to save. Please go to Philly Food Tour Reservation and reserve your place on the tour and at the table.

Reading Terminal Market is located within easy walking distance (6 blocks east and 1 block north) from the Sonesta at 51 N. 12th Street. It can also be reached quickly via public transportation (septa.org).

Meet at the Market Place Information Desk at 12th and Filbert Streets. Come and go as you need, but the tour will begin promptly at 11:30.
