Beta-Reading and Beyond: A Discussion on Editing and Supporting Fan Fiction and Fan Fiction Authors

Presenter:
Ariel Mickey
Presentation type:
Paper
Abstract:

There is no greater joy in a fan’s life than finding the perfect piece of fan fiction that hits all of your favorite tropes and pairings. But we all have to agree, waiting for the authors to update can cause us to climb the walls with anticipation. So, what can we do as fans to help support our favorite fic authors? We can offer our assistance as a beta-reader! There is a fine line between editing a piece of writing and beta-reading your favorite fic, this panel will discuss those differences, the numerous other ways a fan can offer their support to their favorite authors, and how to toe the line between writing and editing a piece a fan fiction. Other topics discussed in correlation will be: how to contact the author without sounding like a star struck fan, the difference between criticism and hate on a piece of fan fiction, and the best way to promote your work within your fandom.

Scheduled on:
Saturday, November 5, 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm
