The Role of Hyperlocals

Saturday, November 5, 10:30 am to 11:45 am (Bossa Nova 2)

Hyperlocal news sites have become an increasingly important component of the media landscape in the 21st Century. Because start-up costs are minimal, they have proliferated. More importantly, they are filling gaps in local news coverage that resulted from years of downsizing, cutbacks and layoffs in the news industry.

In this session, presenters will outline the roles played by hyperlocal news sites by examining the operation of TAPinto, a successful group of New Jersey and New York hyperlocals.

Presentations

  • Michael Shapiro (TAPinto)
    Jackie Lieberman (TAPinto Westfield)
    Danny Jones (TAPinto)
Anne Elizabeth Lee (St. Bonaventure University)
