The Fetish of Breakfast

Presenter:
Erich Hintze (College of Southern Maryland)
Presentation type:
Paper
Abstract:

This paper will start with fetish as fetish is human. There is no fetish without human. The four main definitions of fetish are - 1.) to find mystical or magical properties 2.) to find arousal in something not whole human 3.) to have abnormal overabundance of; and 4.) to have abnormal fixation of; is to, by these very definitions, be human, albeit, a human with a fetish.

To examine breakfast as food, as an event, as time, as a concept, and as words and language through the four lenses of fetish is to find astonishing insights to our culture and ideas, addiction and beliefs, and faith.

To interview IHop waitstaff during the All You Can Eat Pancakes event is to learn of how that company creatively handles the grotesque.

To search google for breakfast contains the full indexes of digital behavior, often jarring and vulgar. To watch videos of people using breakfast items in sex is something that will not be shown at the presentation out of courtesy.

The paper should surprise and engage. The purposes are to explore breakfast fetish, not exploit it.

Scheduled on:
Friday, November 8, 11:00 am to 12:15 pm
