Presenter:
Luc D Guglielmi (Kennesaw State University)
Presentation type:
Paper
Abstract:

This presentation will examine the struggles in teaching sexuality in the South and offering tools on how to overcome these struggles while offering concrete tools on how to reach every students in your class. The approach in this course, and therefore in this paper, will present popular culture documents (mainly visual documents both in print and in short movies) in which students are exposed to nudity in sex in the American culture but also internationally. The course, and the presentation, will focus on three main item: visual semiotics theories in which students get the tools to understand, analyse and form an opinion based on facts. Safe sex practices in which students learn on their own but also through lecturers on how to safely, legally and within respect having healthy sexual intercourse. Finally, the international aspect of sexuality through the various cultures across the globe in which students get exposed to other perspectives when it comes to sex, nudity, love, mariage, divorce, women’s right, abortion and many other topics very dear (and very hot) for our students. This course has been taught many years, and, once, again will offer a real prospect on what to expect when teaching these subjects in a public southern university. This paper will be part of a bigger project on offering ressources for anyone wishing to teach these subjects.

Scheduled on:
