Abstract: 

First time novelist Tommy Orange confronts so-called American history and how it is reflected/refracted in 2019. Using technniques of modernism, Orange creates a bridge from history to present day America in which pervasive violence is reflected on all social media platforms. When a country is founded upon violence, the seeds of violence are sown. This explosive novel deconstructs and subverts the tropes of America: Home of the Free.
