Who are these guys? Italian Sculptors and the Faces of Woodlawn

Presenter:
Susan Olsen (Woodlawn Cemetery)
Presentation type:
Paper
Abstract:

In the first two decades of the 20th century, many memorials were designed to feature the portraits of the individuals at rest. At the Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, New York, many of the sculptures and bas-reliefs were created by Italian immigrants. Who are these little known sculptors? Where were they trained? What was their relationship to the departed and their families? This presentation will show these commissioned works of art and answer questions about the men who created lasting images of the people of New York City.

Scheduled on:
Thursday, November 5, 11:00 am to 12:15 pm
