MAPACA Late April 2017 News: MAPACA at PCA/ACA 2017, CFP, & DIA Winner

This is MAPACA’s late April 2017 newsletter. The next conference is November 8-11, 2017 (Philadelphia, PA).

MAPACA at PCA/ACA 2017

Earlier this month many MAPACA affiliated folks, board members and presenters alike, traveled west for the annual Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association (PCA/ACA) National Conference in San Diego, California. It was a wonderfully engaging time full of scholarship, fellowship, and general pop culture goodness. Why not continue the discussion at one of the many PCA/ACA regional conferences happening in the upcoming academic year. CFPs are posted for PCA/ACA South, Midwest PCA/ACA, Northeast PCA/ACA, and of course MAPACA. Thinking far ahead? Be on the lookout for CFPs from Southwest PCA/ACA, Farwest PCA, and Oceanic PCA.

2017 DIVINE IMPACT AWARD WINNER: CHEF JOSE GARCES

MAPACA is proud to announce the 2017 Divine Impact Award winner Chef Jose Garces. Chef Garces is an award winning chef, author, and restaurateur with a strong connection to the Philadelphia area. Chef Garces’ culinary success as a James Beard Award winner and his work on the hit Food Network show Iron Chef America are complemented by his work with the Garces Foundation, a nonprofit that provides health and educational services to Philadelphia’s immigrant community. Chef Garces’ passion for Latin culinary traditions shines in his two cookbooks, The Latin Road Home and Latin Evolution. Chef Garces will receive the 2017 DIA and participate in a Q&A at the conference on Thursday November 9th. A reception will follow.
