Thanks to all who participated in our badge competition by turning in your gently used badge holders to our registration desk. This helps MAPACA control costs and be friendlier to the environment! We collected a total of 42 badges. Julie Still won the contest for the most badges turned in, and Kathleen German won our random drawing of everyone who turned in a badge. All winners have been notified via email. We’ll collect badges at #mapaca19 as well, so keep us in mind for then!

Spotlight on the 2018 Grad Student Event at Tapestry Comics

For those of you who attended our MAPACA Grad Student Social in Baltimore, you were exposed to the event’s sponsor—Tapestry Comics. This American-based, independent publisher has put out a series of graphic novels focusing on historical figures. Tyler Button is the founder and writer of the books.

Following Tapestry Comics on Twitter reveals how teachers often use their graphic novels in classrooms and libraries, which they offer bulk pricing. Most recently, they just shipped 40 copies of Bayeux, a graphic novel that retells the events of 1066, to a middle school in Baltimore.

Their most recent publication, A Flower in a Field of Lions, focuses on Joan of Arc. They launched the work at Tucson Comic Con on November 2 and copies of these were the first to go at the MAPACA Grad Social when it came to selecting prizes.
