Update about #mapaca2020 and COVID-19

We know that you have many questions and concerns about our conference in light of the COVID-19 virus. Despite the uncertainty, there is no reason not to submit your proposal. The MAPACA Board is monitoring the situation closely, are working on contingency plans, and as of now we are planning to have the conference as scheduled. We will keep you apprised of any news both here in the newsletter and in our social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.

2020 Call for Papers

Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association (MAPACA) 2020 Annual Conference November 5-7, 2020 Princeton, NJ — Princeton Marriott at Forrestal

Call for papers:

Proposals are welcome on all aspects of popular and American culture for inclusion in the 2020 Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association (MAPACA) conference in Princeton, NJ. Single papers, panels, roundtables, and alternative formats are welcome.

Proposals should take the form of 300-word abstracts, and may only be submitted to one appropriate area. For a list of areas and area chair contact information, visit mapaca.net/areas. General questions can be directed to mapaca@mapaca.net. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

MAPACA’s membership is comprised of college and university faculty, independent scholars and artists, and graduate and undergraduate students. MAPACA is an inclusive professional organization dedicated to the study of popular and American culture in all their multi-disciplinary manifestations. It is a regional division of the Popular Culture and American Culture Association, which, in the words of Popular Culture Association founder Ray Browne, is a “multi-disciplinary association interested in new approaches to the expressions, mass media and all other phenomena of everyday life.”

Information about #mapaca2020

MAPACA 2020 will be held at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal with FREE self-parking. We will have more information about how to book your room with the conference rate later this year. We will also have information about transportation in and around the area beginning in our October newsletter.

Call for Area Chair in African and African-American Studies

The MAPACA Board is actively recruiting for new Area Chairs! We are specifically looking for chairs for the following new area: African and African-American Studies

We are also looking to create a pool of people interested in becoming Area Chairs! To join the pool of potential Area Chairs or to apply to chair our new areas, please send an email expressing your interest and describing your research and/or teaching areas with a CV to [vp-areas@mapaca.net].
