Current statement about #mapaca2020 and COVID-19, with a Survey Link

MAPACA’s board continues to monitor COVID-19 pandemic developments. The Annual Meeting is currently scheduled to take place November 5-7, 2020 at Princeton Marriott at Forrestal, in Princeton, New Jersey. At this time, we are gathering feedback from potential registrants about the likelihood and ability to attend the conference. As always, our goal is to safeguard the interests of our members and our association now and for years to come.

This is where you can help! We’ve designed a short and confidential survey. It asks how likely you now are to attend an in-person conference in November 2020 and what factors are most affecting your decision. Please complete this survey by Wednesday, June 17, 2020. Please click here to take the survey, which should take less than five minutes. Thank you!

Call for Area Chair in African and African-American Studies

As we stated in our Commitment to Anti-Racism, MAPACA is working to start a new area in African and African-American Studies, and we are recruiting an Area Chair to lead the new area. If you or someone you know is interested, please email vp-areas@mapaca.net.

Call for *Response

Response: The Journal of Popular and American Culture is soliciting submissions for the Fall 2020 issue. As the journal for the Mid-Atlantic Popular and American Culture Association (MAPACA) we are interested in representing culture broadly speaking: see our list of areas for examples. Along with traditional peer-reviewed articles, our open-access online format allows us to publish non-traditional pieces — such as roundtables and narrated presentations — as well as a variety of reviews. See our cfp for more information. Submissions should be submitted by the end of June to Response@mapaca.net.
