Make Sure Zoom is Installed and Updated

Our conference starts tomorrow! We are so excited to see you and hear about all the great work you are doing!

All of our panels will be on Zoom, so make sure you have Zoom installed on your device and create a Zoom account if you do not already have one. You can do this for free at this link.

If you have Zoom on your device, make sure you are updated to the latest version! Zoom pushes regular updates, so it’s a good idea to check for updates well before your first panel begins.

Use Your Personal Schedule To Get Conference Links

Adding panels to your Personal Schedule is the only way to access the Zoom links to each panel. It’s also a great way to organize your plans for MAPACA.

We have made a tutorial for how to use the Personal Schedule you can watch here.

Hang Out in Our Social Room!

We are pleased to announce that we will have a social space where people can hang out and have conversations. To find the link for the Social Room, add them to your Personal Schedule!

You can add Friday’s Social Room to your schedule here

You can add Saturday’s Social Room to your schedule here.

Publishers will also be in our Social Room during the conference to answer questions about books and offer discounts!

Special Events

Award Ceremony

On Friday at 12:15pm, we will hold our annual Awards Ceremony. Please join us in honoring our Loretta Lorance Award recipient, Raj Shobha Singh. The Lorance Award is granted to a conference participant who has contributed to the growth and success of the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association through service and leadership. We could not exist without the hard work of our volunteers, so we are honored to convey this award.

We will also award the Daniel Walden Prize for best undergraduate and graduate papers and the Ralph Donald Award for best paper and presentation from last year’s conference.

Crash Course

On Saturday at 12:15pm, we will hold our Crash Course. This high-density session will feature several 5-minute micro-presentations about current popular culture topics in a “crash course” about new and interesting phenomena. The Crash Course is a fast paced, fun way to learn about new ideas and experience the breadth that MAPACA has to offer!
